But I know they're all around me, all day and through the night,

When the enemy is closing in, I know sometimes they fight.

--Amy Grant, "Angels Watching Over Me"

Zadkiel, Cherub Archangel of Protection, is an old if lesser-known Archangel, gaining her status around 500 BC. Her servants are the true guardian angels, charged with making safe the paths of the righteous. They can also be a holy terror to those who threaten their charges, though not driven to the extremes that a Servitor of Gabriel might be.

Zadkiel's Word covers not only the obvious bodyguard duties of Heaven, but also the more nurturing side of caring for those who need help. Homeless shelters, soup kitchens and halfway houses are just as likely to be Protection Tethers as a police station or National Guard armory would be. Her servants may not refuse protection to a faithful human in need -- "faithful," in this case, is not tied to any particular religion, but reflects those who have avoided the dark path and turned their hearts to Heaven in some way.

Relations with Other SuperiorsEdit

Zadkiel gets along well with most Archangels and considers Novalis something of a patroness. She dearly loves Gabriel and her passion for destroying the cruel, and tries to protect the Archangel of Fire from herself when she can. Marc and Yves are also close friends. She is somewhat distant to David, the harsh tester of humanity, Jean, who often withholds technological aid until he deems humankind ready for it, and Jordi, who mistrusts humans altogether.

She has also begun to strengthen her ties with Khalid, now that the Archangel of Faith has returned to Heaven. Like him, Zadkiel is a Muslim, though her own approach to the faith is more moderate and pragmatic than her compatriot's fiery devotion.
